’südkap europas’ - ein kleiner geografischer exkurs

die südspitze siziliens [3] isola delle correnti (geografische lage 36°n, 15°e) liegt südlich von [4] pachino/sizilien und damit nahezu auf exakt gleicher höhe mit der offiziellen südspitze europas, dem allerdings praktisch unzugänglichen [5] kap matapan (36°n, 22°e) am ende der halbinsel mani, des mittleren fingers des peleponnes/griechenland.
auf dieser höhe liegt auch die südlichste europäische stadt [6] tarifa/spanien (36°n, 5°w), dem geografischen gegenstück zu, ja, eben nicht [7] hammerfest/norwegen (70°n, 23°e), der in wahrheit gar nicht nördlichsten stadt europas bzw. der welt (siehe [8] wikipedia), sondern dem nahe dem [9] nordkap (71°n, 25°e) gelegenen und von mir letztes jahr ebenso besuchten [10] honningsvåg (70°n, 26°e).
das südlichste europäische stück land ist übrigens die unterhalb kreta gelegene griechische insel [11] gavdos (34°n, 24°e).
‘europe’s southcape’ - a short geografical essay
the southern tip of sicily [3] isola delle correnti (geografic position 36°n, 15°e) is located south of [13] pachino/sicily hence almost on the same latitude as europe’s official southernmost tip, [14] cape matapan (36°n, 22°e) which is located virtually unaccessibly at the end of the mani peninsula, the middlefinger of peleponnes/greece.
[15] tarifa/spain (36°n, 5°w) is europe’s southernmost city and the geografic counterpart to, well, actually not [16] hammerfest/norway (70°n, 23°e), which is in fact not the northernmost city of europe and the world respectively (see [17] wikipedia), rather than to the city of [10] honningsvåg (70°n, 26°e) nearby the [19] northcape (71°n, 25°e) - except for tarifa and cape matapan all locations i visited in 2006/07.
by the way, the southernmost european piece of land is a small greek island named [20] gavdos (34°n, 24°e) south of crete.
